Robert de Groot
Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the EU
As from May 2017, Robert E. de Groot is Ambassador at the Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of The Netherlands to the EU. Prior to that, Mr de Groot had an extensive experience at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague holding various positions from 2002 to 2011. Overall, he covered the roles of Director General for European Cooperation, Deputy Director General for Political Affairs, Director of the Security Policy Department and Head of the Bureau of the Secretary-General. From 1998 to 2002, Mr de Groot was Foreign Policy Advisor to the Netherlands Prime Minister at the Ministry of General Affairs in The Hague. Previously, he joined the Netherlands Foreign Service, after completing the Military Service as Reserve-Officer between 1987 and 1988. Mr de Groot has a Master in Monetary Economics from the Erasmus University, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
