Werner Bosmans

Werner Bosmans, a Belgian national, graduated as a Bio-engineer at the University of Ghent, Belgium, and obtained a Ph.D. in international economics in Montpellier, France. He also holds a degree in Public Management. After undertaken research at the University of Ghent and at the Belgium Ministry of Agriculture, he worked as assistant to the Secretary-General of the Belgian and Flemish Ministry of Agriculture. He is also a part-time professor at the ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles). In 2005, he joined the Directorate-General Environment of the European Commission in Brussels. He is responsible for Natural Resource policies, promoting life-cycle thinking to reduce environmental impacts. He helped setting up the International Resource Panel together with UNEP. He is one of the authors of the Roadmap to a Resource Efficient Europe and coordinated follow-up work, such as the European Resource Efficiency Platform (EREP). He is now focussing on the Circular Economy and coordinating the development of a Strategy on Plastics.
